LEED

Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) is transforming the way we think about how our buildings and communities are designed, constructed, maintained and operated across the globe. Building projects satisfy prerequisites and earn points to achieve different levels of certification. FlameOFF® Coatings, Inc. encourages everyone to register their project with USGBC's LEED department.

How does a product become LEED Certified?

The answer is, you can't! LEED does not evaluate or endorse any products or companies. LEED is an innovative program backed by USGBC (U.S. Green Building Council) that certifies green building projects, from individual buildings, to whole neighborhoods, communities, and cities. The LEED rating system awards credits for the environmental performance of the building project. LEED credits are not dependent upon a specific product or element of the project.

Instead, the project is evaluated as a whole, where a certain percentage of the products and materials used must comply with LEED requirements in order to achieve different levels of LEED certification. The credits relate to the project’s impact on and use of carbon, energy, water, waste, transportation, materials, and the resulting health and indoor environmental quality. Projects are reviewed and verified by GBCI and awarded credits to achieve different levels of LEED Certification: Certified (40-49 points), Silver (50-59 points), Gold (60-79 points) and Platinum (80+ points).

How does FlameOFF contribute?

FlameOFF products are water based, non toxic, and Low VOC. Our Fire Barrier Paint product is UL GREENGUARD and GREENGUARD GOLD certified! In fact, it is one of the only US manufactured intumescents to achieve this level of testing and certification. Details can be found in UL’s SPOT database

  • The primary credit that our Fire Barrier Paint product’s GREENGUARD status contributes towards is LEED v4.1; Category EQ, Credit EQc2 ("Environmental Quality Credit 2"), Low Emitting Materials (specifically "Paints & Coatings”).
  • A comprehensive list of other national and international sustainability program contributions can be found on our product’s SPOT listing under “Rating Systems/Sustainable Credits”.

The Low Emitting Materials category is designed to “reduce concentrations of chemical contaminants that can damage air quality and the environment, and to protect the health, productivity, and comfort of installers and building occupants.” (Source: USGBC, Credit Language)
